This Saturday, the National Opera of Ukraine in Kyiv re-opened for the first time since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, almost four months ago. The first performance back was of Italian composer Gioachino Rossini 's comic opera, The Barber of Seville, and the audience reportedly gave the two-act production a 10-minute standing ovation.

the National Opera House of Ukraine is a very beautiful building, located right in the center of Kiev and easily reachable on foot, by metro (Teatralna), by taxi. The interior is taken care of, the cost of tickets is affordable, the online booking is efficient. I saw two operas by Puccini (Tosca and Turandot). A pleasant experience, to be repeated.

Tickets at the National Opera of Ukraine start at 20 UAH (less than a pound). After arriving at the theatre we made our way down to the cloakroom. We were directed from one attendant to another before one finally accepted our coats. We hired some binoculars for a small fee before making our way to our seats.
