Clayton Street runs from the centre of Newcastle past the Grainger Market down into Clayton Street West. Clayton Street West has a junction with Westgate Road after which it continues on to end at a junction with Westmorland Road, near Central Station.

Newcastle Grey Street, built in the 1830s. Present-day Newcastle owes much of its architecture to the work of the builder. Grainger Street and Clayton Street with many connecting streets, as well as the Central Exchange and the Grainger Market. John Wardle and George Walker, working in Grainger's office, designed Clayton Street, Grainger.

No. 12, Clayton Street. Overview. Map. Street View. The former Lord Collingwood public house - now Victory Amusements, is located at the northern end of Clayton Street in Newcastle. Built in c. 1837, probably by John Wardle, for Richard Grainger. [ 1 ] The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.

Plans to transform an historic corner of Newcastle's city centre into an apartment style hotel (aparthotel) and cafe/ restaurant have been submitted. The move will see the elegantly curved Grade II listed 36 - 40 Clayton Street transformed into 13 aparthotels spread across the upper floor areas. This is part of an ambitious redevelopment.
